Call for Nominations – Annual Excellence in Preservation Awards

Nominations for Preservation Kentucky’s annual Excellence in Preservation Awards are now open!

 
Established in 2012 to honor the exceptional contributions of Kentuckians who have excelled in preserving the Commonwealth’s rich heritage, Preservation Kentucky’s annual awards feature projects from rural and urban communities, and people who have demonstrated exceptional guidance preserving the built environment, promoting sustainability and providing educational programs.

 

It’s important to recognize excellence in preservation because these success are inspirational, encouraging reminders of how historic preservation strengthens communities, fosters economic development, and helps maintain and create jobs.

 

Preservation is about placemaking on both a personal and collective level.  It’s good for business, our economy and our quality of life!

Categories

 

Edith S. Bingham Excellence in Preservation Education

For preservation educators, projects, or programs that have demonstrated excellence in traditional or nontraditional educational arenas.  Includes nonprofit educational programming; archaeology, history or preservation educators in schools or colleges; preservation projects with an educational theme or outcome; and, historic or prehistoric sites with innovative preservation programming.

 

Linda Bruckheimer Excellence in Rural Preservation

For preservation leaders, projects, or programming devoted to preserving Kentucky’s important rural heritage. includes small town preservation (under 10,000), barn and farmland preservation, rural heritage-based education projects, and/or historic architectural or archaeological survey and National Register of Historic Places work intended to preserve rural properties.

 

Christy and Owsley Brown Excellence in Public Service to Preservation

For Kentucky’s elected public officials, civil servants or public sector employees who have demonstrated leadership in preservation public policy on the local, state or national level.

 

Helen Dedman Excellence in Preservation Advocacy

For preservation advocates, volunteers or professionals who have shown great commitment of time and resources to furthering historic preservation across the state.  Preference given to those who have worked on the local and state levels combined.

 

Barbara Hulette Young Excellence as a Young Preservationist under age 40

For young persons who have displayed emerging leadership in the field of historic preservation.

 

David L. Morgan Excellence in State Historic Preservation Tax Credit – Commercial and Residential

Two categories for commercial and residential preservation projects that have demonstrated excellence in rehabilitation using Kentucky’s State Historic Preservation Tax Credit since its inception in 2005.

 

Ann Early Sutherland Excellence in Green / Environmental Preservation 

For preservation leaders who have made a strong connection between the preservation of historic places and environmental concern, and understand the relation between the preservation of our built environment and our natural environment.  Includes historic sites, educational programming, bricks-and mortar projects, or people who have contributed to the field.

 

Patrick Kennedy Excellence in Preservation Craftsmanship

For preservation craftsmen/women who have demonstrated exception traditional building craft techniques and restoration skills on more than one preservation construction project across Kentucky.  Includes those who have demonstrated excellence in educating other craftsmen/women in Kentucky.

 

Excellence in Cultural Heritage Tourism

For an organization, site or attraction that has preserved and advanced Kentucky’s architectural, cultural and social history through dynamic interpretation and the promotion of historic resources that contribute significantly to our tourism industry and the preservation of Kentucky’s heritage.
